Creative Imagery

1) The Red Wheelbarrow Idea
Find a simple image that appeals to you for simple reasons. Take a picture of it. Write a short unrhymed poem about it. You may mimic "The Red Wheelbarrow" in style/structure if you like. I would love to see a collection of images and poems, or a series of small poems on the same image, or simply a longer poem than "Wheelbarrow." Enough to keep you busy most of the period!

2) The Sweet, Cold Plums Idea
Again mimicking Williams, write your own version of the falsely apologetic "plums" poem. Use an image (sight, smell, sound...) and re-create his ironic tone. Your result may be humorous.

**I have found that student poetry improves dramatically when the focus is put on imagery!! Abstract poems about love and beauty can easily get sappy and feel "empty." Make your work on this project be very image-focused. Think about the five senses. Pull your ideas out of the images.
